Flight Summary

Direct flights to Minneapolis - St Paul are available from London Heathrow with Delta, although most flight connections for MSP will take you via Amsterdam instead.

A cheaper option has been available with Sun Country Airlines from Gatwick, although this route only operated briefly (with a stop in Gander).

Destination Summary

The twin cities of Minneapolis-St Paul are best known for being home to the biggest shopping complex in the United States, the gargantuan Mall of America. Spectacular consumption aside, this sprawling metropolis is also one of the leading cultural centres in the Great Lakes region.

Connecting flights to Minneapolis St Paul

Although many UK regional airports offer flight connections to Minneapolis via US gateway hubs, this is of limited use for those airports which do not have scheduled flights to the USA.

Even though most UK international airports do offer feeder flights into Amsterdam, this lack of competition appears to explain why even connecting flights to MSP rarely seem to represent good value.

Can I get it cheaper?

If you are happy taking the scenic route, you may find it better to search for flights to Chicago instead, and then make your own DIY connection onwards to MSP.

Considering the extra hassle of having to transfer airports in Chicago, we really don't think this is worth it, unless you want to include Chicago on your itinerary (you will get a fantastic view of downtown Chicago from the Orange Line, which is part of the elevated 'EL' system). Of course, we can think of plenty more reasons why Chicago is a great place to explore, but you came here looking for cheap flights to Minneapolis, not flights to Chicago!

We have also sometimes found that flights to Minneapolis St Paul are much cheaper from Dublin, and that you can easily add on a feeder from just about any UK airport, and still save money. This is partly because there is next to zero departure tax on flights from Ireland, but also these flights are just better value for one reason or another.

However, there are a number risks involved with making this kind of booking -- if any of your flights are late, neither airline will offer you any kind of assistance in making the next connection, and you will probably have to buy a fresh ticket.

By the time you factor in all this risk, and the inevitable extras spent on three sets of airport food instead of one, it may not still be worth the hassle - do your own research and see!
